About Vocal Remover & Karaoke Maker

Most stereo recordings place the lead vocal in the centre of the mix, equally in both channels, while instruments are spread to the sides. That makes it possible to reduce the vocal by cancelling what the two channels have in common — the basis of karaoke track extraction.

This tool applies that technique to produce an instrumental, or inverts it to roughly isolate the vocal.

How to use it

  1. Upload a song. Stereo files work; a mono file has no channel difference to exploit.
  2. Choose whether you want the instrumental (vocal removed) or the isolated vocal.
  3. Preview the result and download it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does some vocal remain?
Anything else placed in the centre of the mix — usually bass and kick drum — is affected by the same cancellation, and reverb on the vocal spreads to the sides and survives it. Results depend heavily on how the track was mixed.
Will it work on any song?
It works best on conventional stereo mixes with a centred vocal. Live recordings, mono files and heavily processed tracks give poorer results.
